This is the equivalent of a 5v FTDI cable. I didn’t have an FTDI cable and my PICkit2 uart tool had funky formatting I couldn’t change so I made this.
My MakeitLast entry could have used just this , and had a built in USB connection. The reason I didn’t do that is how complex the USB stack is to a first time user. Doing it this way I can show every one how to build something that works just like an FTDI cable but has I/o pins too but not overwhelm people trying to read my project code with a large multifile project . I don’t want the inherent complexity of USB to distract from the actual project.

Note – I think Microchip snuck past an update to the applications library by me , this uses the version previous to the current version, The 3.3v device uses the current version. I have a few things to do today , but will update these files and post a new link to download on this post when its done and this warning will be removed.
